As with most northern cities, the adverse conditions presented by extreme weather creates a strain on the decorative metal bases they use to adorn the main streets of their communities. The lower pole locations for decorative bases on a light pole make it ground zero for ice melting elements invading the material. Whether it’s salt or chloride, these are very corrosive to metal bases. The solution TerraCast® Products provided the Village of Berkley, IL was to match their current design with a resin manufactured decorative base. The benefits provided by this alternative is a color-thru material that contains UV inhibitors to fight color fading, a material that will never rust and the savings of never having to paint it. The results are decorative bases that never have to survive the phase of years 3 to 5 where chips, nicks, and fading tend to collect and multiply before the typical 5-year maintenance of sanding and painting take place. This equates to many more years of a base that looks new and the community never has to endure those pockets of time where the base doesn’t look its best.
